OFFICIALS of the Western Provincial Government have spent the past two days reviewing existing provincial policies to ensure they are aligned with the newly launched national policy of the GREAT Government.
The review brought together Heads of Divisions within the provincial administration to examine current policies and identify areas that require amendments to complement the national government’s development priorities.
Speaking to Island Sun, Deputy Provincial Secretary, Collin Potakana said the exercise is a crucial step to ensure that provincial policies remain relevant and supportive of the country’s new development direction.
“As we know, we have a new government with a new policy, meaning we as a province need to review our policies,” he said.
“It is an important task as it will align our policies with the national government.
“This undertaking is paramount when it comes to the implementation and negotiation of much-needed development initiatives.”
Potakana explained that Western Province has its own development aspirations outlined in its 2025–2030 Development Strategy, which serves as the province’s roadmap for growth and progress over the next five years.
He said some components of the strategy and related policies require adjustments to ensure they are consistent with the priorities of the national government.
“Western Province’s development strategy and policies cannot be effective unless they are aligned with the national policy.
“Again, this is how important this review is to Western Province,” Potakana said.
He said the policy alignment will strengthen cooperation between the provincial and national governments, enabling smoother implementation of development projects and improving opportunities to secure support for key provincial priorities.
The review comes following the launch of the GREAT Government’s National Policy earlier this month.
The policy outlines the government’s vision and priorities for national development, economic growth, governance reforms, infrastructure development, and improved service delivery across the country.
Provincial governments are expected to align their development plans and policies with the national framework to ensure a coordinated approach to achieve the country’s long-term development goals.
