Ela Motors Solomon Islands has donated 12 toolboxes filled with automotive tools to the Solomon Islands National University (SINU) Automotive Engineering Department to strengthen practical training for automotive apprentices.
According to a SINU statement issued yesterday, the tools were officially handed over during a brief ceremony at the university’s Kukum Campus.
Ela Motors Finance and Administration Manager Ravneel Kumar presented the donation, saying the company was pleased to support the department’s training programmes.
Mr Kumar said although the tools were previously used, they remain in good condition and are suitable for practical learning.
Receiving the donation, SINU Technical and Further Education (TAFE) Director Solomon Pita, speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, the Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic), staff and students, thanked Ela Motors for its support.
He described the donation as an investment in the future of SINU students, saying the tools will help apprentices gain practical experience and hands-on skills needed in the automotive industry.
He said the donation will also strengthen the department’s ability to deliver apprenticeship training, competency-based programmes, short courses and other automotive training.
He thanked Ela Motors management and staff for their commitment to support technical and vocational education and expressed hope that the partnership will continue to grow for the benefit of students and the country’s automotive sector.
Head of the Automotive Engineering Department Samuel Kwaoga said the donated equipment will give apprentices greater access to industry-standard tools and improve their practical training.
Mr Kwaoga also acknowledged Apprenticeship Coordinator Toni Sego for initiating discussions with Ela Motors that led to the donation.
He said Mr Sego’s efforts in engaging the private sector had secured a valuable contribution that will benefit automotive students for years to come.
Meanwhile, Mr Sego urges students to take good care of the donated tools so future apprentices will also benefit from them.
