The Kakamora Games 2026 officially opened yesterday in Kirakira, Makira Ulawa Province, marking the start of a week-long sporting programme involving athletes and teams from across the province.

According to updates shared by the Makira Ulawa Provincial Government, competitions will be hosted across several venues with rugby 7s, basketball and athletics taking place at Waimapuru, while volleyball and netball competitions will be staged in Kirakira.

Taekwondo and table tennis events will be hosted at FM Campbell School.

Earlier information released by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) stated that this year’s Games will feature multiple sporting codes that aim to promote sports development and identify athletes for future provincial representation.

The Provincial Sports Council is expected to use the tournament as an important platform to identify and select athletes to represent Makira Ulawa Province at the upcoming Solomon Games in Honiara.

Officials confirmed earlier this week that participating teams had already begun arriving in Kirakira ahead of the opening ceremony and start of competitions.

Sports followers and supporters have also been encouraged to follow the Kakamora Games Facebook page for fixtures, results and tournament updates throughout the week-long programme.

The games are expected to attract strong community participation and support as sporting activities continue across the province.
