Malaita Province will be hosting its Second Appointed Day celebrations on August 15, 2025 in each of the province’s wards.
This was revealed in a statement released by the Malaita Provincial Government early this week.
It stated that the decision to host the upcoming Second Appointed Day at the ward level was made after careful consideration of the ongoing construction of major infrastructure projects that are progressing well.
“Redirecting personnel and resources to host a large central event in Auki would place additional strain on our limited finances and delay important development works,” the statement said.
The statement added that the Provincial Government is committed to allocating budgeted funds to each Ward Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) to support celebrations at their ward level.
“This is to ensure all communities can still celebrate this significant day of the province,” said the statement.
It also mentioned that funds available for the event depends on the provincial government’s current cash flow situation, and will be communicated directly to the respective MPA.
The statement advises organizers who will host the event outside of Auki town to acknowledge the venue owners and respect and observe both the cultural customs and legal frameworks that govern the venue.
“We want to advise any organizer or association wishing to host Second Appointed Day celebrations outside of Malaita Province to do so with full acknowledgment of the landowners of the venues being used.
“Event organizers are expected to respect and observe both the cultural customs and legal frameworks that govern those lands”, said the statement.
Event organizers are also advised that no alcohol is to be served or consumed at any of these events, as official representatives of Malaita Province.
The Malaita Provincial Government expects their Second Appointed Day celebrations to uphold the values of respect, unity and community pride.
Malaita Province consists of 33 wards, including the Malaita Outer Islands.
