The Ulukolu Community Transport Association (UCTA) in North Guadalcanal has welcomed and commissioned a new three-tonne truck.
A statement from the community yesterday said the vehicle will serve its communities at Sali in North Guadalcanal to provide transport services to Sali and its catchment areas.
This is the third vehicle and second three tonne truck the UCTA has achieved during its five-year operation with the first two vehicles being a three-tonne truck and tractor.
The statement said the commissioning program of the vehicle was attended by Director of Original Company, Mr Samson Maneka and guests from different communities.
Miss Lisa Pepehu, a women’s representative spoke at the occasion and highlighted that the truck is more than simply a vehicle.
“It is an asset that will assist community development and improve mobility to boost our local economy,” she said.
Miss Pepehu said they are excited about the positive impact this vehicle will have on their daily lives and the opportunities it presents for collaboration and growth.
She added that together they can harness this new resource to develop connections and uplift their community as a whole.
Miss Pepehu also said that the women recognise the important role the Ulukolu transport service plays and it has eased the many challenges women have encountered in the past.
She expressed that the Ulukolu transport service saves time and effort and creates job opportunities for their communities and they are indeed grateful for this transport.
“We sincerely appreciate the trust placed in our association to manage this transport for the benefit of all.
“The positive impact of the Ulukolu transport service extends beyond mere convenience; it fosters a sense of unity and empowerment among women in our communities.
“By facilitating access to essential services and markets, it enables us to take charge of our livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to the economic landscape,” said Miss Pepehu.
The program included remarks from guests and community leaders, blessing of the vehicle, and entertainment from the youth and community.
