Aoke/Langalanga Constituency aims to create and engage its constituents in income-generating projects by living on artificial islands.
Constituency Project Officer, Bernard Dakero said that since the constituency is situated along the coastline, they have shifted plans to focus on projects that involve marine resources.
He said the projects aim to create and engage people in two specific initiatives which are seaweed farming and shell money making.
Dakero added that the constituency office is currently delivering seaweed farming projects to the people and will provide them with materials for the shell money initiative.
He hopes that with the two projects; more opportunities and engagements will be created.
Meanwhile, he emphasized that shell money making and seaweed farming are not new to the people, as they have gained knowledge about it during the time of the late and former MP, Bartholomew Ulu’afalu,
“By looking at these projects, it is not a new thing for our people”, he said.
To add on, Eddie Basikolo, a seaweed farmer from Busu Community expressed that making shell money is something that has been long practiced by their ancestors.
