The Kaloka–Hirojah Tarunga Youth Association from Isabel province yesterday launched its inclusive website at the Pagoda Hub in East Honiara, marking a major milestone in its efforts to improve access to information and opportunities for communities in Isabel Province.
The launch was attended by the association’s executives, Diocesan Secretary of Isabel Province Kenneth Rodgers Havilegu, Chairman of the Young Entrepreneurs Council Solomon Islands (YECSI) Limahl Totogi, website developer Adrian Obadiah, and members of the Isabel community based in Honiara.
Speaking during the launch, Kaloka Youth Association Chairman Vincent Hiro said the website was created to ensure that youth, women, the elderly and people living with disabilities have equal access to important information and services.
“Today is more than a website launch. It is a statement that our youths matter, our women matter, our elderly matter, and people living with disabilities will not be left behind. Information is a right, not a privilege,” Mr Hiro said.
He said many people in rural communities have struggled to access information on employment, health services and development opportunities because of distance, cost and other barriers.
“This website breaks those barriers. It is simple to use, accessible on mobile phones, and designed to connect people with opportunities, services and information that can improve their lives,” he said.
He thanked YECSI for its continued partnership and support to the association, saying the organisation has played an important role in empowering young people through various projects.
He also acknowledged the Anglican Church of Melanesia, the Solomon Islands Government through the Ministry of Tourism, and members of the Kaloka community for their ongoing support.
Special recognition was given to website developer Adrian Obadiah, who volunteered his time and expertise to build the website free of charge.
“This is more than a gift to our association. We are grateful for your commitment to our young people and for providing a platform that will continue to serve our community,” Mr Hiro said.
He encouraged members of the public to use and share the website so more people can benefit from the information and services available.
“This website belongs to our community. Please use it, share the link with your families and friends, and together let us make sure no one is left behind because they lack access to information,” he said.
He expressed his sincere appreciation to the major sponsors of the program, the Gao/Bugotu Constituency Member of Parliament, Mr. Trevor Manemahaga, and WinWin Company, for their generous support in making the program a success.
He thanked them for their commitment to supporting community initiatives and their valuable contribution to the program.
He said the website forms part of Kaloka–Hirojah Tarunga Youth Association’s commitment to promoting digital inclusion, community development and youth empowerment across Isabel Province.
