THE Solomon Islands national volleyball teams have withdrawn from the upcoming Oceania Zonal Volleyball Championship 2026, scheduled for August 3 to 9 in Guam.
Solomon Islands Volleyball Federation (SIVF) president Morris Maitaki confirmed the decision on Tuesday night, saying financial constraints and the high cost of sending both the men’s and women’s teams were the main reasons for the withdrawal.
Maitaki said difficulties in obtaining entry visas to the United States territory were also a key factor in the federation’s decision.
“On behalf of the federation, I would like to convey our apology for this late withdrawal,” Maitaki said.
Meanwhile, the confirmed nations for the championship are host Guam, Palau, New Caledonia, American Samoa, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Wallis and Futuna, and the Cook Islands.
Each nation is expected to field two teams — one men’s and one women’s side — in a tournament designed to showcase Pacific volleyball talent and strengthen regional sporting ties.
