Whose Land, Whose benefit?

Date:

Dear Editor,

It’s alarming to learn that more than 15 prospecting mining licenses are granted to some Chinese companies without proper consultation with landowners in Honiara. While companies carry out mining, land owners become unaware of the situation and this leads to social injustice. This action raises serious concern on transparency, ethics and governance. True leadership is about serving all and not just serving those in power. That’s why the government should make sure there is honest and open discussions between mining companies, landowners and officials. Good leadership means looking after everyone and leaving no one behind.

Sincerely,

Siola Kafa
