The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC) has confirmed that deployment of polling officials for the upcoming by-elections in West Guadalcanal Constituency and Paripao Ward begins today.

Speaking during SIEC’s final pre-election yesterday at SIBC, Philothea Paul of SIEC said training for polling officials should commence after deployment until June 2, in preparation for polling day.

The By-Election for West Guadalcanal and the Provincial Ward for Paripao will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.

According to the Commission, five male candidates, all running as Independents, are contesting the Paripao Ward seat.

In the West Guadalcanal race, six candidates are contesting the vacant parliamentary seat.

Among them is former MP Anthony Veke.

One female candidate is also in the race.

Philothea confirmed that the counting venue for both elections will be at the Rove Police Club in Honiara.

She also called on all voters to participate peacefully and responsibly and reminded the public to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.

“All eligible voters in the respective constituencies are encouraged to exercise their democratic right by turning out to vote on polling day,” SIEC stated.
