West Honiara Women’s Volleyball Team Emerges Victorious at SIVF Annual National Championship 2024

WEST Honiara Women’s Volleyball team emerged as the champions of the 2024 Solomon Islands Volleyball Federation (SIVF) Annual National Volleyball Championship, which concluded yesterday at the Friendship Hall. In a thrilling finale, West Honiara dethroned former champions Renbel Storms with a decisive 3-1 set victory, sealing their triumph with a comfortable 25-15 win in the final set.

National beach volleyball expert and team member, Hannah Marasalau, reflected on the intense competition, stating that “it’s been a tough but enjoyable journey.” Setter Marlina Epale echoed her sentiments, acknowledging the strength of their opponents and the crucial role of teamwork and communication in their victory.

Epale also commended the SIVF for organizing the event, emphasizing its significance in fostering the growth of women’s volleyball in the Solomon Islands. “Competitions like these provide a platform for new and potential players to showcase their talents,” she added. The setter also shared her personal journey of regaining confidence and performing at her best during this championship.

Clerina Spillius, another standout player on the team, joined in celebrating their hard-fought victory. “We faced tough competition, so it feels incredible to become champions,” she said. Spillius also revealed the team’s plans to maintain their winning momentum by staying united for the upcoming Independent competition.

Team Manager Jeff Julevai congratulated the women’s team on their outstanding performance and also recognized the Honiara East Men’s Volleyball team for their second-place finish in the Men’s Division.

The Men’s Division champions title went to Malaita Atolls, showcasing the depth of talent across the Solomon Islands. This year’s championship witnessed intense competition, with 10 men’s teams and 8 women’s teams battling it out on the court.

The victory for the West Honiara Women’s Volleyball team marks a significant milestone in the development of women’s volleyball in the country. Their triumph serves as a testament to their dedication, teamwork, and exceptional skills.

The SIVF Annual National Volleyball Championship has once again highlighted the passion and talent within the volleyball community in the Solomon Islands. With the conclusion of this successful event, expectations are high for the sport’s continued growth and the emergence of new stars in the future.
