The Solomon Islands Meteorological Service (SIMS) issued Strong Wind Warning Number 81 yesterday at 4pm, it remains current for all waters of Solomon Islands.
According to the warning, a trough lying north of Solomon Islands combined with a general southeasterly wind flow over the country is driving the hazardous conditions.
Southeasterly winds are expected to reach 15 to 25 knots across all waters, with seas moderate to rough and southeasterly swells of 2.5 to 3.0 metres.
Poor visibility is also expected in areas experiencing rain, showers and thunderstorms.
The statement said people in affected areas should take precautionary measures, as winds of this strength have the potential to impact lives and property.
Sea travellers are also urged to take safety precautions, with SIMS warning that the conditions can produce dangerous wave conditions hazardous to small boats.
Members of the public are encouraged to share the warning with people with disabilities. SIMS said a follow-up warning was due today morning at 7am.
