Football fraternity remembers a leader whose humility, friendship and dedication helped strengthen the game in Solomon Islands
BY RICHARD MENANOPO
The Rennell Bellona Football Association (RBFA) has joined the Solomon Islands football community to mourn the passing of respected football administrator and servant of the game, Lyndon Bako.
In a condolence press release sent to the Island Sun, RBFA expressed its deep sadness following the death of Bako, describing him as a dedicated football leader whose contribution and commitment to the development of football in Solomon Islands will not be forgotten.
The association extended its condolences to Bako’s immediate family, his extended family, the Isabel football community, the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF), and the wider football fraternity across the country.
RBFA said Bako’s passing represents a significant loss to the sport, highlighting the impact he made not only through football administration but also through the relationships he built with people throughout his years of service.
“The passing of Lyndon Bako is a tremendous loss not only to his family but also to the football fraternity across our nation,” RBFA stated.
“We mourn together as one football family and give thanks for a life that touched countless people.”
According to RBFA, the association first developed its relationship with Bako in 2017, and over the years he became more than just a football colleague.
The association described him as a trusted friend and brother whose kindness, humility and willingness to serve others earned the respect of those who worked alongside him.
RBFA said Bako was recognised for his ability to unite people, whether through football competitions, administrative engagements or community activities.
The association noted that his influence went beyond match days and football operations, saying his passion was reflected through his efforts to build stronger football communities and encourage the growth of the sport throughout Solomon Islands.
“As we grieve his passing, we also celebrate the remarkable legacy he leaves behind,” RBFA said.
“His service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to football will continue to inspire future generations of players, administrators, and football supporters across Solomon Islands.”
RBFA also encourages the football community to honour Bako’s memory by continuing to uphold the values he represented throughout his life — unity, humility, respect, friendship and a genuine love for football and its people.
The association assured Bako’s family that they remain supported by the football community during this difficult period.
“To Lyndon’s family, please know that you do not walk this journey alone. We pray that God will grant you strength, comfort and peace as you mourn the loss of your beloved son, brother, husband, father and family member,” RBFA stated.
RBFA, a Christian-based football organisation, also shared a message of faith and comfort, reflecting on the hope of resurrection and eternal rest.
“To our dear brother Lyndon Bako, thank you for your friendship, your service, your laughter, and your invaluable contribution to football in Solomon Islands. Though you have been called to rest, your memory and legacy will forever remain in our hearts,” the association stated.
Football administration and development in Solomon Islands relies heavily on individuals who dedicate their time and effort behind the scenes to strengthen the sport at all levels.
Administrators, officials and volunteers continue to play a key role in supporting competitions, clubs and football pathways across the country.
Bako’s contribution is remembered by colleagues and football organisations as part of that ongoing effort to grow and unite the football community.
