GUGUHA Community High School in Isabel Province has been selected as one of 10 schools nationwide to benefit from the Asian Development Bank (ADB)-funded Solomon Islands Senior Secondary Education Improvement Project.
Senior Education Officer and School Inspector for the Isabel Education Authority, Reuben Dotho, confirmed that the school has been included in the project and implementation is expected to begin soon.
He said Guguha CHS is fortunate to be among the selected schools that will benefit from the initiative, which aims to improve the quality of education in senior secondary schools across the country.
“We are pleased that Guguha Community High School has been selected as one of the recipient schools under this important project,” Dotho said.
He acknowledged the Asian Development Bank and the Solomon Islands Government for choosing Guguha CHS as one of the beneficiaries.
According to project information, the proposed Senior Secondary Education Improvement Project will focus on improving learning outcomes for senior secondary students through the expansion of climate-resilient school facilities, provision of quality teaching equipment, and strengthening school leadership in climate resilience and modern teaching practices.
The project is also expected to improve student access to education, increase retention rates, and boost the number of days students spend in school through the construction and upgrading of small-scale infrastructure at 10 senior secondary schools across the country.
Each of the nine provinces will have one participating school, with an additional school located outside Honiara also included in the program.
A key component of the project is to address barriers faced by female students. The initiative will pilot innovative solutions that support gender equality aligned with the Sustainable Development Goal 5 agenda on women’s empowerment and gender transformation.
The project will also create opportunities for experienced female educators to advance into leadership positions within the education sector.
Education officials in Isabel Province have welcomed the project, saying it will strengthen teaching and learning environments while creating better opportunities for students and teachers at Guguha Community High School.
