PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare has announced an allocation of $700,000 for the assessment and redesign of the Tulagi Hospital.
He made the announcement during celebrations marking the 40th Anniversary celebrations of the Central Islands Province.
He said the Government allocated $5.8 million under the World Bank COVID-19 support for the construction of the Tulagi Hospital and hopes that work will soon begin on this.
Dr Leslie Bunabo supervising Director of Tulagi Hospital thanked the Prime Minister for his visit and to see for himself the status of the Tulagi hospital.
He said in terms of covid 19 infrastructure, Tulagi is far behind but once that re-development is implemented it will help lift the face of the hospital as it will house an x-ray lab.
Bunabo also highlighted staff houses as one of the problems facing medical staff and that construction of staff houses must start as soon as possible.
“This is so that when staffs are posted here, they come and stay to serve the people of Central province,” Bunabo added.
