ELECTION workers in the Western province have begun moving to the wards to put up final election notices as well as initial preparation following the opening of nominations on Wednesday.

More than 20 election officers have been appointed assistant returning officers (ARO) ready for the June-13 provincial election in the Western province.

Returning Officer, Hopeful Piosasa, has delegated all relevant duties to all the appointed officers including election materials and voter lists.

The Election Office has advised that in the current weather pattern, some far and outer islands are being treated as priority concerning logistics.

The first few duties of the AROs are to put up election countdown notices and also delivery of nomination forms. The first list of intending candidates would then follow.

The AROs are expected to receive nominations of candidates from their respective wards until May 13.

A nomination fee of $500 is payable by candidates which include three registered nominators in a particular ward. There is a withdrawal period in between before the period lapses.

A huge turnout of candidates is expected from the 26 wards.
