Police investigate serious wounding case in Yandina

POLICE in Central province is investigating an alleged serious wounding incident which occurred at Sifola Village at Yandina in the Russell Islands on August 26, 2018.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central province, Superintendent Patricia Leta says, “It is alleged the victim and the suspects were arguing over the ownership of a coconut plantation with the victim allegedly swearing.

“As a result of their argument the first victim who is also a suspect took a clay cup and hit the victim on his head sustaining serious injuries.

“The other victim who is also a suspect then allegedly cut the other victim with a small knife which landed on his right hand.

“The first victim was referred to the National Referral Hospital (NRH) whilst the other victim received stitches to his head at the Yandina clinic.

“The other two suspects were surrendered to Yandina Police after Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Yandina Staff Sergeant Thomas Fakatonu send a note with a village elder for them to surrender.

“Another victim, who is also a suspect, is still at the National Referral Hospital in Honiara in a stable condition.”

“Currently the suspects have been remanded in custody and will appear in court within the next 14 days.

“I appeal to all the good people of Central Province not to take the law into their own hands.

“There are many ways to resolve problems in a peaceful and meaningful way that will always unite us together.

“I wish to thank the people of Sifola Village for their understanding and the support rendered to my officers at Yandina,” says PPC Leta.
