THE Solomon Islands Government is continuing talks with Australia on the Optic Fibre Cable Project
This is according to the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (OPMC).
Island Sun sent queries on the progression of one of the Government’s major development progression to the OPMC via the Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Mr Douglas Marau.
The paper’s grounds of query were based on previously published article(s) in the Global Times stating that Australia was overstating security concerns of Huawei’s link to the Solomon Islands.
A scoping team from Australia has already visited the country.
Upon their return to Australia a formal proposal is expected to be submitted to the Solomon Islands Government for consideration.
In the meantime the Solomon Islands Government says it is taking the Australian offer very seriously.
The Solomon Islands Government then strongly added that it is determined to ensure an agreement will be concluded soon and looks forward to its implementation in by this year.
